Vous me trouverez, Mes Amis...

Vous me trouverez là, Mes Amis...

Where I Shall Be (John)

If one day I should cease to be…

Do not look for me beneath a stone,

In the silence of some desolate cemetery;

At the foot of a wrought-iron cross,

Or in a dark mausoleum's loss,

No you will not find me there.

You will find me, my friends...

Among the daffodils I never dared to pick,

In the abandoned garden blooming once again,

Beside the Wharfe as it races past, only thinking of escape

From our quiet town, a beautiful place to live and grow old..

You will find me among the heather flowers upon the lonely moors,

Wandering through Wharfedale, a valley my eyes so often cherished,

In Otley Chevin Forest Park, bathed in the fresh air,

Or in our pubs, putting the world to rights, with all our hearts.

Haunting through Fountains Abbey, in all its splendour,

Or perhaps crossing paths with the spirits of the Brontë sisters,

In the middle of these landscapes that they have romanticized so well

Exploring this county of Yorkshire, so rich in history.

You will find me there, my friends...

In the knowing wink of a playful ray of sunshine,

In the carefree flight of a butterfly, with its fleeting destiny,

In the sunset glowing with the colours of passion,

In the moonlight and its silent journey across the skies,

Among the constellations, forever restless and alive,

In this living world, which I have loved so deeply.

This is where I shall be waiting for you..

This is where you will find me, my friends...
